Raising Money 101

In 2014 I joined the EnergyFunders team which was the first company that I was fully in charge of raising capital. In the previous years, I was an understudy (COO) for two startups that did get capitalized, but the lack of team expertise held us back from scaling. When EnergyFunders came knocking, I was prepared for the challenge.

The number one skill set for a startup CEO is raising capital. In fact, it's your only job. This skill set is not something you are born with, but it is a craft that is only learned by doing. You can read 1000's books, you can watch YouTube videos and you can read "Pitch anything" (great book) but at some point, you have to go and raise money.

This can be scary because it is, however, if you believe in your idea you will have the guts to go out and tell the world. It will require you to fail time and time again until you get it right. Raising capital is tough (for some people) but once you realize you are just telling people about your opportunity and they can decide if they want in.

Good luck and enjoy the journey one investor at a time.
